To Serve You Best

We provide a diagnostic energy audit of your building according to the principles and practices of the Building Performance Institute.

We use well maintained test equipment with certifications traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

We also use computer programs with energy analysis engines developed by the U.S. Department of Energy.

These practices assure you of the best accuracy available.

We are a home performance contractor  that treats a house as a completely integrated system. Instead of focusing on a single home component, we consider how all components work together more efficiently to provide an optimal in-home environment. We start with our comprehensive energy audit, which combines building science and modern technology to evaluate the energy efficiency of your home. Our detailed report addresses your concerns and prioritizes the recommended retrofits. We are also licensed to make all the remediation’s saving you 20% to 50% off your energy bills all while making your home energy efficient, healthier, more comfortable and lowering your carbon foot print.

Our trained technicians at BEDR Energy will begin your custom energy audit with an exterior walk around your home taking pictures and make notes of any features that may indicate energy loss. Peeling paint and worn shingles that may indicate moisture or heat-vapor loss from the structure. We also inspects windows to see how insulated they are and checks for seams and cracks that could be better caulked or sealed against outside air.

Once inside the home, BEDR Energy’s technicians inspect pipes and ducts that give off heat and check there effectiveness and for common leaks that are present in most homes. A blower door is set up in an exterior door to create an air circulation. Our technicians will look at windows and trim, lighting, appliances, and heating and cooling equipment testing there efficiency. A typical energy audit can last from an hour to up to three hours depending on the size of the home. Once the walkthrough is complete, our technicians will create a custom report which will explain where heat and energy loss are occurring in the home and offer suggestions for fixing the issues.

A home energy audit is a service where the energy efficiency of a house is evaluated by a person using professional equipment (such as blower doors and infra-red cameras), with the aim to suggest the best ways to improve energy efficiency in heating and cooling the house. An energy audit of a home may involve recording various characteristics of the building envelope including the walls, ceilings, floors, doors, windows, and skylights. For each of these components the area and resistance to heat flow (R-value) is measured or estimated. The leakage rate or infiltration of air through the building envelope is of concern which are strongly affected by window construction and quality of door seals such as weatherstripping. The goal of this exercise is to quantify the building’s overall thermal performance. The audit may also assess the efficiency, physical condition, and programming of mechanical systems such as the heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment, and thermostat. A home energy audit may include a written report estimating energy use given local climate criteria, thermostat settings, roof overhang, and solar orientation. This could show energy use for a given time period, say a year, and the impact of any suggested improvements per year. The accuracy of energy estimates are greatly improved when the homeowner’s billing history is available showing the quantities of electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, or other energy sources consumed over a one or two-year period. Some of the greatest effects on energy use are user behavior, climate, and age of the home. An energy audit may therefore include an interview of the homeowners to understand their patterns of use over time. The energy billing history from the local utility company can be calibrated using heating degree day and cooling degree day data obtained from recent, local weather data in combination with the thermal energy model of the building. Advances in computer-based thermal modeling can take into account many variables affecting energy use. A home energy audit is often used to identify cost effective ways to improve the comfort and efficiency of buildings. In addition, homes may qualify for energy efficiency grants from central government. (Source WikiPedia)
